Mini Modules

Kato Mini Dioramas

Sometime around 2020, Kato Japan began releasing "Mini Diorama" kits.  The dioramas use either the Kato 124mm straight, or the 183mm radius pieces.   The module bases are 25mm tall.  

The Diorama-kun kit and book were created in the hope that children who have not yet built models will be able to build, read and experience the fun, depth and joy of model-making. 　

Through model-making, children can acquire knowledge, ideas, skills and sensitivity that will be useful throughout their lives. We believe so.

We hope that everyone will have a story of growth like the diorama-kun in this book.

In 2026, Kato has released "KATO mini diorama plus (28-893)".  These are the same height, but have 155mm of track (62mm+29mm+64mm).

The "Mini Dioramas" have definitely been a hit with active modelers and kids alike!  Oklahoma N-Rail has put together a great Mini Diorama Guide detailing building and exhibiting mini-dioramas.

Pocket Sized Modules

Pocket Sized Modules have been developed to be fully compatible with the Kato Mini-Dioramas, but have a larger base footprint.  The larger base allows for more scenery, additional track placements, and even modules with turnouts.  Like the Mini-Dioramas, they are build using 183mm radius track, and at 25mm tall.
